Fue proyectado en 1881 por José Oriol Mestres para Claudio López, para diferentes usos: entre ellos un hotel que fue el lugar donde se ubicó el banco en 1923; en 1947 Javier González de Riancho planificó el arco y el nuevo edificio de la izquierda, los cuales se levantaron entre 1958 y 1960.
